I'm mad at Christmas

I'm tired of Christmas posts. I'm moving on.

I caught the very beginning of an interview on NPR's Fresh Air with Terri Gross where she talked with Tom Ford about his directorial debut, A Single Man. It was so interesting I went back and listened to the whole thing.

I need to see this movie.

It stars Colin Firth and Julianne Moore. Based on a short story from the 60's by Christopher Isherwood, Colin Firth plays a professor who's long time partner dies and he's so grief stricken he decides to end his life. The movie follows him through his last day as he tries to get his affairs in order and decide if his life is worth living without his lover. It seems so heartbreaking and romantic all in one. I love Colin Firth and I love that Tom Ford decided to do this movie. Dare I say it seems like a Mad Men-esque film but with a more moving plot.

It appears to have gotten great reviews and it is even getting golden globe nods. It seems to only be playing in certain areas (damn you NY and LA) at the moment, but I suggest you check it out if you're in to artsy films as I am.

I'm not surprised that someone so talented as Tom Ford would want to pursue other forms of art but I am surprised that his first film is making such big waves in the film community already and it only came out a few days ago. I suppose from someone who is so driven by the details in things (you can hear that in his interview describing the fashion for the film) that his work would be good no matter what form it takes.

Anyone heard about or seen the film? Go check out the Fresh Air interview here.
