And it begins

I presume with the new Sex and the City movie coming out on Thursday (le sigh) that we will be seeing quite a bit of fashion from the ladies...

Well it's starting with last nights premiere at Carnegie Hall, and so far it's not looking up.

Maybe it's cause I hate this color, maybe it's cause I hate Charlotte and this is what she would wear, maybe its that Kristen Davis is clinging to her characters identity like it's the last thing on earth. I don't know. But I do know that I HATE this dress.

Kim Cattrall looks Ok. I think it's her hair that I don't like. It just isn't working for me.

I'm sorry SJP, I know everyone else is going to like this. Even the harshest of critics have said they liked it. But I just don't think it's a good color for you my dear. I know you've worn yellow before, and I liked it. But this is just too yellow for your skin tone.

The dress looks like you've been practicing to be on Miss America, and then afterward you maybe could cut it short and wear it for SATC on Ice.

Now this from earlier in the month is lovely. I'm with this 100%, go you.

Now, I would not have expected this from Cynthia Nixon but...girl you look good.

The glam black with the brooch accent?

You win.

She Bangs, She Bangs

Before I leave for Southern California this weekend for good, I'm going to get my hair cut. I was looking through pictures of girls with bangs (I let my hairdresser convince me bangs were a good idea when I was 15 and I'll never go back...I love my bangs) and I came across a few cute pictures of who else but dearest Zooey Deschanel.

I know she's old news but I just can't get over her.

She's cute and quirky, has great style, and seems like an all around nice girl...

And man, does she have great hair...

Did you know her sister is on the show Bones? They look a lot alike.

She was named after the brother Zooey from JD Salinger's stories Franny and Zooey

And she has a lovely voice that she uses in her band, She and Him with M. Ward. They just came out with their second album. Anyone heard any of her music?

Sigh...Jersey...Really?

Can someone please tell me what this new fascination with New Jersey is? Cause I've been there, and it aint that great and as far as I can tell none of the shows prove me wrong.

These people just can't be real...

I just don't get it.

I might just barf...or wear a hat to the premier

Sex and the City 2...the movie...

Is anyone as embarrassed as I am by the plot and completely ridiculous, cliche ridden, over the top nature of this movie?

And is anyone equally as embarrassed as I am that they will see it opening night?

I'm hoping for some redeeming factor, and a measly little scrap like looks something like the tv show and if not? I go for the clothes my friends.

Thoughts?

You Otter Know

I have been crazy busy this last week and it just doesn't seem to be stopping in the near future. I spent this last weekend in Carmel for mother's day (HI MOM). We went to a fabulous brunch and ate until we almost popped.

I got home just in time to celebrate my 2 year anniversary with the boy (HI BOY) where we went to a fantastic fondue restaurant in the bay area and ate until we almost popped, who can say no to melted cheese with bread and melted chocolate with fruit while listening to David Cassidy sing "I think I love you"? I certainly can't, and the 70's pop soundtrack made it all the better.
Now we leave tomorrow for San Luis Obispo and Los Angeles to go apartment hunting until Sunday. Hopefully at least one of us comes home with a place to live and/or at least good prospects. After that it will be pack, pack, pack and then back on the road to LA we go.

I'm glad to say that the ball is now rolling full steam ahead. After being unemployed and bored for almost the last year I'm more than happy to have a lot to do.
Needless to say blogging will be sporadic for the next few weeks until the dust settles. So please bare with me and my limited writing/commenting.

Until I can get back into a good rhythm look at this cute picture of a baby otter and his mommy. It seems like the right time to post this cuteness...as if there were ever a wrong time.

Have a lovely day my dears.

Call Me Confused

I know this is old news but I've been thinking about the misconceptions women have about men and their thoughts on women. I've spent my whole life under the impression that men are attracted to well...this:

The overly busty blonde female, with not an ounce of meat on her, who looks like she'd do just about anything to please you, include not think or talk about anything...ever.

I think we could all agree that most women think of this type of woman when asked what they think men are generally attracted to, right? Women all over the world spend thousands of dollars trying to look like this woman. Blonde hair dye, no meals, tanning beds, teeth whitening, body scultping, botox, silicon implants, nose jobs, liposuction...you name it, we've done it.

But now it comes out that in Esquire magazine Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame is voted the sexiest woman alive...wait...what?! My brain and all its well honed opinions just came to a screeching halt.

This woman has curves! I mean like a real woman's body! She has hips, and real breasts, and bright red hair, and pale skin and gasp, a personality! She probably even eats! She's a thinking woman's woman!

I'm confused. She is nothing, I repeat NOTHING like the woman I think we all envision when thinking about what men are supposedly attracted to. Does this throw anyone else for a loop? Or is it just me? Is anyone else surprised by these results and the obvious answer that we have men all grouped under these general shallow labels that they cannot get out from under?

I mean seriously. Wow.

God bless you Christina Hendricks and your real God given hips and beautiful ginger hair. I love you.

Throwback

This weekend was mildly uneventful as weekends go. I did bake; it was delicious, my mothers chocolate chip cake got rave reviews (recipe soon to follow). I also went to breakfast with a dear friend, and I conveniently chose a breakfast place a block away from one of my most favorite vintage stores in all the world.

Knowing that I will be moving soon and this gem of a shop will be oh so far away I went in just to browse...and then just to try things on...and then to buy just one little something for mothers day brunch and then left with 2 dresses, 2 shirts and a sweater jacket. The best part about this place? I got it all for $50...

This place is one of those rare finds, a place you can walk in to and find authentic vintage clothing that won't cost a months rent to own. And I will miss it, tremendously. One of my favorite pastimes is perusing the racks at vintage/consignment shops, I love the anticipation and hope of finding a treasure and I love owning something no one else does. I enjoy the history, the quality and uniqueness of the clothing. Even my dry cleaner has said, "man, you just don't see quality fabrics like these anymore." And I like that I own those special things.

Now that I'm moving to LA I know that there will be a million little "vintage" shops all over the place, but I'm worried everything will cost hundreds of dollars and nothing will be authentic. Who wants to spend $300 on a replica? I don't.

Anyone who lives or has lived in Southern California have any tips or advice on places to shop for authentic vintage clothing that won't cost me my grad school tuition? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Now on to the goods:

60's mad men-esque dress $13, red silk blouse from Paris with flower detail, $8:

Electric blue sweetie dress from 70's $13, Black flowy hippy shirt $6:

Golf themed Granny sweater, $10:

What did you do this weekend?
